Your partner does not need you quieter. They need the snore to never start.
What it is
SoniRest is a boil-and-bite anti-snoring mouthpiece — a mandibular advancement tray you soften in hot water and bite once for a custom fit. It holds your lower jaw about three millimetres forward of where it collapses to overnight. One mouthpiece and a travel case come in the box; a two-pack is available for both sides of the bed.
How it works
The SoniRest Forward Hold™
Here is what actually happens at 2am. As sleep deepens, the muscles of your jaw and tongue slacken. The jaw drifts back, the base of the tongue follows it, and an open airway narrows to a slit. Air that used to pass quietly has to squeeze through, so it speeds up, the soft tissue around it starts to flutter, and that flutter is the sound everyone down the hall knows.
SoniRest does not muffle the noise. It removes the slit. The tray cradles your lower jaw roughly three millimetres forward, pulling the tongue base with it and holding the airway at its open width. Air slows back down. Tissue that is not buffeted does not vibrate.
It is also why chin straps and sprays keep failing you: a strap clamps the mouth shut but lets the jaw slide back anyway, and a spray coats tissue without moving the anatomy blocking the air. Only a forward hold changes the geometry.
How to use it
Two minutes, once. Soften the tray in hot water for about 30 seconds, bite down to mould it, cool it. That is your custom fit, done.
One minute, first night. Set the advancement to the lowest comfortable step. Move up a step only if the snoring persists.
Nightly. Wear it, then rinse it in the morning and cap it in the case. Expect a few nights of adjustment before it feels like nothing.
What is included
1 Mouthpiece + Case — $39.95. One boil-and-bite mouthpiece with adjustable advancement, plus a travel case.
2-Pack (His & Hers) — $64.95. Two mouthpieces and cases, for when both sides of the bed are the problem.
Who this is NOT for
Do not use this with dentures, and do not use it if you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea — suspected apnea belongs with a physician, not a mouthpiece, and a device that quiets the sound of a breathing problem is the last thing you want. It is also not for anyone with loose teeth, recent dental work, or ongoing jaw and TMJ pain without checking with a dentist first. And if you snore because of a blocked nose during a cold, this will not help that week: it moves the jaw, not congestion.
Common Questions
Does an anti-snoring mouthpiece work for mouth breathers?
Yes, because the mechanism is jaw position rather than mouth closure. The Forward Hold keeps the lower jaw about 3mm forward so the tongue base cannot collapse into the airway, and that holds whether you breathe through your nose or your mouth.
How does a mandibular advancement device stop snoring?
Snoring is air squeezing through a narrowed airway fast enough to make soft tissue flutter. Holding the jaw a few millimetres forward keeps the airway at its open width, so the air slows down and the tissue never starts vibrating.
How do you mould a boil-and-bite mouthpiece?
Soften the tray in hot water for about 30 seconds, bite down to mould, and you have a custom fit in under two minutes. Then set the advancement to the lowest comfortable step and only move up if the snoring continues.
Is it comfortable enough to wear every night?
It is designed for nightly wear, but expect a few nights of adjustment — mild jaw awareness and extra saliva in the first week are normal and usually settle. Starting at the lowest advancement step makes that week easier.
Do chin straps or anti-snore sprays work instead?
Rarely, for jaw-position snoring. A strap clamps the mouth shut but does not stop the jaw drifting back, and a spray coats tissue without moving the anatomy blocking the air.
