The shade that looked right under the shop lights is the shade you're now wearing to work.

What it is

A double-ended foundation stick in a slim pen body: an angled sponge tip at one end that dispenses and blends in the same motion, and a twist mechanism that feeds the formula through as you use it. It comes in three options — Ivory White, Natural and Dark Skin — and it's built to live in a bag rather than on a dressing table.

How it works

The formula is shade-adjusting, which is a real thing and also a widely oversold one, so here's the plain version. The pigment sits in a base that breaks down under pressure and warmth. Straight out of the tube it looks pale and chalky; as you press and blend, the pigment disperses and deepens, and it settles closer to the tone it's sitting on. That's why the swatch on the back of your hand is never the shade you end up with on your face.

What that buys you in practice is forgiveness. It shifts within a band rather than across the whole spectrum, so it covers the gap between your winter face and your summer face without owning two bottles.

How to use it

  1. Prep — 1 minute. Moisturiser first, and give it a minute to sink in. Shade-adjusting formulas grip badly on dry patches.
  2. Dot and blend — 2 minutes. Twist up a small amount, dot it across the forehead, cheeks, nose and chin, then work it out with the angled sponge until the colour stops changing.
  3. Wait 60 seconds, then check. Give it a full minute in daylight before you decide it's wrong; it goes on paler than it dries.

What's included

  • One double-ended foundation stick with built-in angled sponge applicator, in your chosen option: Ivory White, Natural or Dark Skin

Who this is NOT for

Shade-adjusting is a range, not magic. It moves within a band around each option, so if your tone sits at either extreme — very fair or very deep — a formula sold as one-shade-adapts-to-all is likely to read ashy or orange on you, and a properly matched foundation will always beat it. It's also not full coverage: it evens out tone, it doesn't hide much. And if you like a heavy matte finish set with powder, this isn't that kind of product.

Common Questions

Does colour-changing foundation actually match your skin?

It adjusts within a range rather than matching everyone. The base breaks down as you blend and the pigment settles closer to the surrounding tone, which closes a small gap well and a large one badly. Pick the option nearest your natural depth rather than relying on the shift.

Which option should I choose?

Choose by your own depth, not by the effect. Ivory White for fair skin, Natural for light-to-medium, Dark Skin for deeper tones. The adjustment then handles the seasonal drift.

How much coverage does it give?

Light to medium. It evens skin tone and softens redness; it will not cover a healing spot on its own, so keep a concealer for that.

Do I need a brush or sponge?

No — the angled sponge tip is part of the stick, which is the reason it works as a bag product. A damp beauty sponge on top will sheer it out further if you prefer.

How do I keep the applicator clean?

Wipe the sponge tip with a tissue after each use and wash it with a drop of gentle soap every week or two. A loaded sponge is what makes a stick foundation drag.
