What it is

Whisper Wave is a flat fabric-topped speaker disc that lives under your pillow. It's about the size of a drinks coaster and flat enough that you don't feel it through the pillow — and there's nothing in your ear. It pairs to your phone over Bluetooth 5.4, plays from a microSD card if you'd rather leave your phone alone, and has white-noise sounds built in.

How it works

The trick is placement, not volume. Because the driver sits under the pillow, the sound reaches you through the pillow itself and stays roughly the size of your head — loud enough for you at a low setting, quiet enough that the person next to you gets nothing. That's why it works where a bedside speaker doesn't: a bedside speaker has to fill the room to reach you, and filling the room is exactly the problem.

It charges over USB-C and it's a single sealed disc with no cable running to your face, so rolling over doesn't unplug anything.

How to use it

1. Charge it (first use). Plug it into any USB-C cable until it's full before the first night.
2. Pair or load (1 minute). Pair it to your phone over Bluetooth, or drop a microSD card in the slot and it plays straight from that. The built-in sounds need neither.
3. Slide it under and turn it down (10 seconds). Put it flat under the pillow roughly where your ear sits, then set the volume lower than you think — under a pillow, low is loud enough.

Who this is NOT for

This is not noise cancelling. It gives you something to listen to instead of the room — it does not delete a snoring partner, a barking dog or a thin wall, and if that's what you're shopping for you'll be disappointed. It's also not a hearing aid or a therapy device of any kind. If you sleep on your back with your head off the pillow, or you use a very thick memory-foam pillow, the sound has further to travel and you'll want it louder. And if you share a bed with a light sleeper, keep it quiet — it's discreet, not silent.

Will my partner hear it?

At a low volume under a pillow, generally no — the sound stays close to your head rather than filling the room. Turn it up loud enough and of course it carries, so the honest answer is: it's private at the volume you'd actually sleep at.

Do I have to leave my phone connected all night?

No. Load a microSD card and it plays from that with your phone across the room, or use the sounds already built into it and connect nothing at all.

Can I feel it under the pillow?

It's flat and slim, so through a normal pillow most people don't notice it. Position it roughly where your ear lands and nudge it once you're lying down.

Does it work as a normal speaker too?

It's a Bluetooth speaker, so yes — but it's tuned and shaped for a quiet, close, under-pillow job, not for filling a kitchen. Judge it on the thing it's for.
